What brand/model of vacuum is your favorite vacuum cleaner and why?

I am looking into buying a new vacuum. I have had the same one for 15 years and it is time for it to retire. I have 2 dogs and a cat so it needs to be able to get the hair off the carpet. I also have hardwood floors and stairs. Any advice, suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
