What are some websites to search for Vintage Chicago homes for sale?
I'm trying to find old homes for sale in Chicago, whether they be lofts, flats or anything else. I'm looking for old hardwood floor vintage Chicago charm and want to know if there's any websites out there specifically for this. I've looked at typical real estate websites like realtor.com and such but there's so many to choose from! Please help!
Am I allowed to put a sign up in my window displaying how I am not satisfied with my home builder?
We recently purchased a new home. When we purchased our home we were told we were being sold a strong, durable hardwood engineered floor and in turn received the complete opposite. It was a significant upgrade and the floor has not performed up to what they thought. The person who sold us the floor has since admitted they nothing of the product so we decided it only fair they do something about it. It has been downhill ever since...poor customer service...lousy communication and so on and so forth. We feel we have no other choice to get there attention on how serious we are and are wondering if anyone knows if there are any legal implications we could face by putting up the sign or notifying the media. We don't want to give up as they need to learn their lesson but don't have lots of money and don't where to turn to get legal advice....Thanks!

Question about "Engineered Hardwood" Flooring?
Hi, we recently had some engineered hardwood installed in our new home. We currently have a dining table and chairs that have the "roll" legs on the chairs. This concerns me, do we have to be worried about making marks on our beautiful new floors? It is a floating floor system, we have heating pads under them. Thanks!!

Am I being paranoid or Am I in Danger?
It's been nearly 2 months since this happened. Me and my sister were playing with our Bokkens outside and sparring and she accidently hit the front of my head. I don't remember how hard, seeing I was in shock and scared. Afterwards I've been getting symptoms that I've never had before. I get this strain and headache on the part of my head of where I got hit. By the way, a Bokken is a hardwood Japanese sword, it emulates as a Katana. I do however get tension on my neck here and there. But it seems that the tension is all going to where I got hit, to my cheek. My Mom says she isn't worried, seeing that it's been awhile since I got nailed. But I'm not sure if it's just my anxiety or what. Other symptoms I get are dry mouth, shivering and trembling, and sometimes it feels like I'm trembling in the inside. My hands get numb whenever I get hot or anxious. Whenever I go to lay down, my legs would start to pound, like a heart beat. I do get insomnia. And honestly, I try to masturbate to see if it'll calm down. But I am not getting that sexual feeling anymore ever since I got hit, as if I have erectile dysfunction from it. Like, it takes awhile for me to get that satisfaction. Again, with the trembling, I notice the trembling in my left hand when I get anxious or hot, and I got hit on the left side of my head. I can speak properly, I am not disabled, but I always fear that there is something wrong with me. My Mom couldn't help me all because she couldn't understand me. Nobody can understand. That's what I hate about my self. With this tension on my head, it feels like it's going to split open. I do get headaches from where I got hit, and rarely I get headaches on my right side of my head. The headaches can be from where I got hit, to the top of my head. Whenever I first wake up, I feel heavy because of my head. I also get nausea, and I have breathing trouble and fatigue. I read online that that can be all from anxiety, I was never unconcious when I got hit, but my anxiety got bad when that happened, I started to have panic attacks. I notice that when I look upwards, my neck has some tension build up.Ca anybody please help me?

What is a really good cleaner for hardwood floors?
I have new, very dark brown hardwood floors, not laminate, and I just can't keep them clean looking. I've used swiffer for hardwood and pledge for hardwood floors. They look good for about an hour until the animals come in or even sock feet leave a cloudy appearance where you walk. If the pets shake the little bit of snow off, the floor is then very spotty. They look fantastic when still wet but look cloudy when dry. I clean them every friday like clockwork and am getting a bit tired of it as it never looks like I think it should. Is there any type of good floor cleaner or a wax that can be used? I looked in Walmart and they had nothing other than what I already used. Any suggestions?
Can My Pebble Floor Project Be Saved?
Picture this...Hardwood floors were laid in a basement which subsequently got wet and warped. They warped so bad, the front door couldn't be opened. We cut out a large area shaped like an octagon at the door and laid travertine tile. This left a small space between the tile and wood floors and something had to be put there to fill in the space. I came up with the idea to put small pebbles in this area which would fill in that space and possibly look kind of cool. I did it and yes it looks real good, the only problem is getting the pebbles to stay in place. I keep having to sweep them back in place into the "hole". My question is, how do I get them to stay in place? When I step over the space where the rocks are, I always knock a few out and especially when my dogs trample over the area pebbles go everywhere. I thought about pouring some clear polyurethane over the pebbles but eventually I plan on tearing all the wood floor out and making the entire room travertine. If anyone understood what I just said and has any suggestions, please help. Thanks!

How can i convince my parents i'm not smoking?

Can you apply polyeurethene to wood floors in 'patches'?
I've got a hardwood floor in my dining room. It's pretty worn all over, but I'm not quite ready to re-varnish the whole thing. But around the table there are a couple patches that are completely worn through to the wood (where the chairs are). Is it acceptable/advisable to put new polyeurethene down just in these patches? Or will that look bad? Thanks in advance.
I broke my knee and they refusing to pay compensation?
I broke my knee badly 4 months ago and still of work.i slipped on small piece steel left in the walkway and banged my knee.the boss saw me just after it happened and I showed him my knee it started swelling straight away.i pointed out I just slipped on that piece steel, went hospital found out I split my knee in 3 places and torn ligaments and suspected nerve damage.work refused pay my wages so I had put claim in.now claim going through the insurance company is not accepting liability and refusing to pay.is this normal procedure?i gutted,I owe so much money I stressed, can't sleep, grumpy.i just need help finacially.my solicitor was claiming for loss earnings and was depending on that.now they won't pay solicitor said it could be years if I win.how can they deny it as the boss virtually saw me get of the floor.

My neighbours are lazy. The got a golden retrever pup for christmas last year and we have only seen it outside twice. None of my other neighbours even know they have a dog. By the way the neighbours I am talking about live above me. I definatly cant miss the fact they have a dog. scratching at the floor and the door in the small room they shut her in, barking, chewing on large bones on the hardwood floors all hours of the night above my bed, urine dripping into my apartment in two different locations......yes...that is what I said urine!!!! I can put up with noise but I have my limits. I also have video of this. although my landlord has never had to deal with this we want them gone. I know they can be out in 20 days unless they stop the behaviour. TAKE YOUR DOG OUTSIDE FOR A WALK......now maybe you think I am exaggerating about them never taking their dog for a walk well. there is always some one home in my house. we work different scheduals we dont have a car...so we dont go out together much. since we have a 6 year old daughter. the smell alone from their apartment has caused me to plastic off all the vents and air exchanges we share (we are in a house) and when you know on their door you tend to want to run off the porch when they open the door. by the way they also have 3-5 cats, a bunny and a few birds that we can hear but dont know exactly the number of pets up there. I just want to know if their is a bylaw that will protect this dog. is it agains the law not to allow you put some kind of freash air or sunlight??? It is not her fault...it is not the dog I am upset with...she is one of the victoms in this and I feel she needs Hepl!!!

Can I tone yellow bleached hair with a semi permanent dye?
Yes light hair holds colour well, but when it is freshly bleached it will not. Unfortunately most of the colour will immediately wash out, especially if you're using semi-permanent. You'd have to wait at least a couple weeks.

What's a good vacuum for a home with pets?
I was considering the dyson ball pet but I don't know that I can justify spending $500+ on a vacuum when my home is all hardwood and tile except the 3 bedrooms. I need one with a heppa filter because of the pet dander and would like to spend no more than $250. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you have seen a doctor and he said you r okay, then wait a couple of days. Maybe three or four days? I wouldnt play any sports. I recommend heating your neck for 15 minutes, cooling your back for 15 then switch. If the pain is still there take advil, for a week. Then- if your still in pain- go back to the doctor and get some medicine. FEEL BETTER!! :)

Vinyl. (Laminate panels look horrendous as soon as the surface gets damaged or worn - vinyl is a bit more forgiving (but not much) and you replace the odd strip that gets wrecked). Maybe some little felt doggie bootees might be answer?

no it will not, i have a dog and a hardwood floor finish... but to be as careful as possible i would trim his toe nails frequently, like once every couple of weeks.
Kitty scratching at carpet?
I was told that in order to help stop my cat from scratching things that I don't want him to scratch that I should spray him with a fine mist of water in his face everytime he scratches something that I don't want him to scratch. I know it sounds cruel but that is what I was told. Also, I think that you should have plenty of scratching posts (One in each room of the house). Catnip can help encourage your cat to scratch the scratching post. I agree with rrm38 that you should research what exactly declawing is. Unfortunately my cat scratches a lot of different things in my house. However, I would never have him declawed after reading about the procedure. There is a product called Soft Claws that may or may not work.

2 years ago we had to put my 13 year old dog, Sasha, down. I was so sad after that my life still isn't the same because I've had her since I was only a few months old. The only problem is my parents don't want one. Can I Remove Primer from Un-Finished Hardwood Floors?
I just had the hardwood floors installed in the living room. The flooring guys laid down the floors and put the first coat of stain on. Unfortunately my painter got primer on portions of the floor. Is there any way to remove the primer without sanding the floors down and without ruining the stain on the floor?

Is 19 months too young to move from crib to toddler bed?
Our son will be 19 months in 3 days, and we're considering moving him to his toddler bed. We have a convertible crib, so it won't actually be that much of a change for him. The other morning I went in his room, and he was reaching over the edge of the crib, about ready to fall out. He has hardwood floors in his room, and I'm very nervous now that he's going to topple out one of these days. I am planning on making sure his room is safe, and putting up a gate so he can't wander the house if he gets out of bed, but I'm just concerned he's too young for this!
Why does my computer keep downloading files with the file extension .ash?

Legs suddenly itch, asthma/allergies?
I was working out in my house today on a hardwood floor, and about 10 mins into the workout I noticed that my legs started itching, pretty badly. I continued working out, and after I was done they still itched a little, and about 20 mins afterwards I started having a little trouble breathing (I have asthma). Does this sound like an allergic reaction to something in the house, like dust or mold?

That's actually sounds like a good price. I'm paying $550 a month in a different big college town and I thought I was doing good. Don't get too far from campus, even if you find a 4 bedroom. Any price difference would even out with gas money and it sucks being a few miles away when you sleep late!
Can anyone explain what was happening to me, scientifically?
I personally have no experience except for what I've observed through my life, but this sounds physicological. I had something similar, I would sit in my room and do absolutely nothing. Some nights I kept thinking someone was sneaking up on me! One time I was lying on my bed and I could feel somebody communicating with me... Hard to explain, but, as if they were talking I felt a message, but nobody was talking or anything, just like a source of energy. I ended up getting a panic attack disorder. When I changed my lifestyle to defeat anxiety, I was side tracked by what originally happened and It completely stopped. So I'm not completely sure but I believe that the human mind is used to adventure and it WANTS to believe that there is a problem to deal with. And this is a popular way the mind attacks people. If you ever noticed, you really only think about the scary stuff while trying to sleep in the dark, then you get freaked out? Then if you end up doing it during day, same result . You're fine buddy. By the way I'm christian too.
Would hardwood floors be ok?
My family room is a converted 2 car garage with a concrete floor. There is a door that leads to the dug out crawl space which has been B-Dried into a basement/storage area. Currently we have carpet in the space but are considering hardwood floors. The room is at ground level in the front and a little under in the back. There is a 1/2 bathroom and utility room off of this room. I currently run a dehumidifier for to try to keep the room a little warmer. My major concern is possible moisture and my minor concern is the cold. What are your thoughts.

If you shower with a snapback hat, will it shrink too?
I know that if you shower with a fitted hat it will shrink but I recently bought a forty seven brand hardwood classics celtics snapback hat and it turns out it doesn't fit right, will showering with it on possiby make it fit, does this process work with snapbacks as it does with fitted hats?

Please help!! My fish tank leaked onto my hardwood floors!?
My tank sprung a leak in the middle of the night. I came down stairs the next morning and about 25 gallons was missing from my fish tank. All the water leaked down under the floor. Okay, I was renting a house for over 2 years. During the lease there was a leak in the house that destroyed all of the hardwood floors. The floors were ripped out in June but the landlord didnt replace them for almost 8 months. So I was paying full price for a home with concrete floors for almost a year. In Nov. my lease was up and the landlord decided to go month to month. Well, I fell behind on the rent and the late fees she was charging me were outrageous. So she sent me an email telling me that if I couldnt get caught up and make ontime payments she wanted me out by March 1. Well, I realized that I couldnt get caught up so I moved out. I offered to pay for the late rent and the late charges, and a prorate for the week in feb. that I need to clean the house. I forefited my entire deposit ( 1 months rent) and pet deposit. Well, the lady is totally freaking out. During the time I rented I bounced 2 checks to her..they were paid off immediatly but now she is saying shes going to the police with the checks to show that "I have a pattern of bouncing checks"...she is also saying that I didnt give her notice ( I didnt she gave me notice) and she wants me to pay a "reletting fee" of over 1000 dollars. Can she do this considering that we were on a month to month agreement? The police cant do anything about checks that are already paid off can they? What are my rights when I move out on a month to month lease. Oh, not to mention that when she did repair the floors she raised my rent to cover the insurance hike due to the faulty plumbing....Do you think I have any remedy in court because I paid full price for a home that did not get repaired for over 7 months? How should I handle her?

Is there anyway to get a patch of bubbles out of the polyurethane coating of my hardwood floor?
I dont' want to just put another coat of poly down, this was coat #3. 1200 sq feet of 60 year old red oak hard wood. No matter how careful I am, I have had at least one "patch" of bubbles somewhere on the floor on each coat. The bubbles are not all of over the floor! I THANK GOD for that! :) I don't want to put ANOTHER coat down. Anyway to get the bubbles out? The poly is dry, but not cured.Soft in the spot where the bubbles are, but not tacky on top. I thought of getting my hair dryer and heating it up a little to see if they would dissappate a little. Pobably an assanine idea. Maybe they won't be noticable once the floor is dryier? I've noticed in the past on a different project I did, there was some puddling, with very noticable lap mark. But as the poly cured more, the lapmark/puddle mark seemed to dissappear. So tell me any ideas. I"m a DIY...but wonder how the pro's deal with bubbles.

My girlfriend has been getting violent with me in the past several months. Often when we are walking she pins me to the floor and starts punching me in my face. Hi! ever since i started pointe, i've been using repetto 207 pointe shoes but now they break easily and i need some intermediate pointe shoes for floor work. The problem is there are no ballet stores in my country and i have to order my pointe shoes online. My last pointe shoes were a tapered box since my first toe is the longest, short vamp, low heel and a full shank, they fit perfectly. I'm trying to find similar shoes with about the same specifications but i need them to be for intermediate level since my first were for beginners and i also am not sure of how hard i have to get the box so depending on the shoe i would appreciate your help advising me. There is this girl i like In my speech class.. but I feel she doesn't like me back. She messed up on her speech early in the semester like 1 week ago . She basically broke down and was really nervous. And then later in the day I saw her in the hallway, I saw her smiling at me. i see her smiling once in a while at me. And then, next class I try to sit near her, and then luckily she sits next to me, while her eyes are looking at the floor. Its common sense man, its a speech class... you need to speak to feel comfortable, otherwise the class is a waste of time lol. AND id on't know , she laughs when other people talk, but when I talk make smart comments, i make jokes and I engage with other girls or guys. I mean I talk to people, I look happy smart, intelligent, attractive, I take care of my skin, face body... how come she doesn't notice??? Its like everything I do is invisible to her. It's going to be extremely hard. If your in school and got a job, its a better percentage of you doing better. You could get you a room or move in with a roommate (male/female your choice). Then continue living your life. But its going to be hard just living without your immediate family, that's the people you've grown up around and know. So, it might be hard for you to get close to future/current spouses, friends, and associates. I say try to have a real conversation of how you feel with the one's you have a problem with. If you have to do it individually, best when they're in a good mood, not to push buttons.

Depression/Motivation problem?
I can't make good grades in school. I have depression which I have recently started taking welbutrin for. I'm in 11th grade and doing middle college (dual enrollment) at the local community college. I would like to transfer to a 4 year school and then go to law school but last semester I made straight c's. I do well on standardized tests in 7th grade I made a 21 on the ACT, and was projected to score in the mid 30's on the ACT when I took the PACT. I made good grades throughout elementary school and in 7th grade since then they have steadily gotten worse I failed courses at my old school. I skip an alarming number of classes and do no work outside of school. I didn't attend a single class one day a while ago and just sat in my car thinking about suicide not seriously kinda half heartedly. Now I am medicated and don't feel down so much but still I don't have any motivation to do anything. I'm not out if shape I hang, out with friends a lot. at home I play video games some and other stuff sometimes I just do nothing the other day I just layed around on the hardwood floor for no reason just doing nothing. Sometimes I feel like I just say I want to be a lawyer because my parents expect me to grow up and do some standard middle to upper class job just like them. I really like cars and would really just like to tune performance cars and be an auto mechanic or drive for a rally team but I don't tell people that because I do want to have money I just am so bored by school and can't make myself try even though I want to. I don't know what to do. I may just seem lazy, but when I had a job I worked hard and seemed to kind of be climbing the corporate ladder. I'm going to start working soon (this time for my parents). I don't know I kinda want to drop out and be poor. Sometimes that sounds like a better option than school. Any advice is appreciated.

Actually it will solve your problems. Ok. To start with, when you buy the crate buy it so he fits in it and has room to sleep and move, but DO NOT buy it way to big. If you do then he/she will poop/pee in one side and sleep in the other.. The reason why you have to buy it that size is because he/she will not poop/pee where he/she sleeps, therefore he/she will hold it as long as possible so when the time comes when you let them out, they will use the restroom. Also eventually the crate will become your dogs safe spot, and how you develope that in your dog is, when you see him/her go to the restroom outside, you let your dog back in but leave the crates door open so your dog notices that "hey if i use the restroom i get to run around in the house". Voiding a rental contract?
Our non-profit theatre company (chartered under Indiana Law as a corporation) has signed 3 contracts with a performing arts venue in town. One contract has been successfully completed, with 2 upcoming. They are basically a short term "lease" of sorts - giving us access to the venue to perform our shows. However, we caused about $10,000 in damages resulting from the performance (scratches on a hardwood floor) under the first contract. The contract stated that we had to pay for any damages caused, which we have agreed to do. However, I was told today that because of the damage we caused, they are voiding our other two agreements and requesting a $10,000 damage deposit to secure each of the dates. The original amount of the deposits in the contracts we signed for those dates where $300. Do they have the right to simply void our valid and executed agreements and demand we pay a large damage to deposit to get those contracts back? We have not violated ANY of the terms of the first agreement, nor the other two. We agreed to pay for the damages caused under the first contract, which meet that contracts demand. Should I start looking for a lawyer and pursue legal action if they choose not too let us continue with the agreements? Thanks.

My golden retrievers shed a lot, and one suffers from allergies. I need a vacuum that will do a good job of sucking up the dirt, grass and leaf pieces the boys always seem to bring in, long hair (theirs and mine) and the bits of toy stuffing fuzz that stick to my rugs long after a toy is tossed in the trash and I run my current vacuum. A good filter is also key, because of the allergies. I know the Dyson Animal is popular, but I need something under $200. I was going to buy a Shark Navigator NV22L, but read some reviews that indicate the vacuum works well for the first few months, then needs expensive repairs that are not covered under the warranty. It would also be nice if the belt was durable, or easy to replace, as my current vacuum needs to be taken apart and have several screws removed every month or two when the belt breaks.

I live in a townhouse and the neighbors home caught on fire. I have a smell in my home resulting from fire next door. The insurance company has told us that they will use ozone to clean up the smoke smell, but I have concerns if it'll do any long term damages to a furniture, appliances, hardwood floors and carpet. Big Move to Georgia...?
I'm 13 years old. I'm originally from Georgia about 50 Miles from Valdosta and the first year of my life was spent there. When I was 1 year old, we moved to Mississippi and when I was 5 we moved to South Carolina where we currently live. Finally were moving back to Georgia this summer. I read every single word. All of them lead me to believe u were... Idk being attacked or bothered by a demon or poltergeist, I don't really believe in that stuff, I mean I believe in god, maybe there is some scientific thing that was going but I don't think so. This might have occurred because the dramatic change in your life style, the stress and the idk turmoil between you and your uncles family which is said, might have had something to do with this... The key idea is to attract your friends, but at the same time, not to scare them away. I agree in that $50 sounds a little steep, especially during these difficult economic times. I would say that you should probably drop it down to about $30 dollars. Remember, it's a party, so you aren't necessarily going to get back all of the money that you spent. I hope you enjoy it!

What is the empirical formula for magnesium ribbon?
Magnesium ribbon, presuming it is pure Magnesium would have an empirical formula of just Mg. The ashes produced would generally be magnesium oxide, which is MgO. Both are solids.

Have linoleum in kitchen. Need something new. Do you like laminated hardwood flooring in a kitchen?
Laminate flooring in itself is nice, but it does not like moisture/water. If water lays on the floor too much, it will curl up at the seams and ultimately warp if too much water for too long. A better choice is real hardwood. The cost is greater, but they will last longer without warping. Laminate is protected on the top surface, but not on the edges/bottom where hardwood is sealed across the entire top side so that water cannot go through to the edges/bottom. If you keep your hardwood maintained, it will last for many years...

Rental Contract voiding?
Our non-profit theatre company (chartered under Indiana Law as a corporation) has signed 3 contracts with a performing arts venue in town. One contract has been successfully completed, with 2 upcoming. They are basically a short term "lease" of sorts - giving us access to the venue to perform our shows. However, we caused about $10,000 in damages resulting from the performance (scratches on a hardwood floor) under the first contract. The contract stated that we had to pay for any damages caused, which we have agreed to do. However, I was told today that because of the damage we caused, they are voiding our other two agreements and requesting a $10,000 damage deposit to secure each of the dates. The original amount of the deposits in the contracts we signed for those dates where $300. Do they have the right to simply void our valid and executed agreements and demand we pay a large damage to deposit to get those contracts back? We have not violated ANY of the terms of the first agreement, nor the other two. We agreed to pay for the damages caused under the first contract, which meet that contracts demand. Should I start looking for a lawyer and pursue legal action if they choose not too let us continue with the agreements? Thanks.

If there is no crack on the screen or damage on the sides where you dropped it take it back and just tell them it died on you. Otherwise take the battery out for 10 or so mins, put it back in and switch it on. Hopefully this will help. Good luck

It sounds like it is a nice house to live in,but don't count on making a profit on it when you sell it as the housing market is still in a decline and you will have expenses involved when selling it.

Can I buy a lock & door reinforcer for a 2 inch thick door?
I just bought a house and the main entrance door is a very big door with beautiful real hardwood. I want to keep this door, but the lock is very old. I want to replace it with a new lock and also a new door reinforcer. But I went to Home Depot and Lowe's and all they had were lock and door reinforcers for 1 3/8 inch thick and 1 3/4 inch thick ones. Are there any locks and door reinforcers for 2 inch thick doors?
