Should I rip up the tile before installing hardwood?

My entire house has tile flooring with the exception of the 3 bedrooms. I absolutely hate it because it is kinda uneven and the grout lines are a little over 1/4" wide and clearly not sealed! I would love to install hardwood flooring myself but am curious if I need to rip up the tile first or not? There is one noticeable dip in the middle of the living room where it dips down and then up. If I had to rip it all up it would take a few days. What are my options?
