What's a good vacuum for a home with pets?

I was considering the dyson ball pet but I don't know that I can justify spending $500+ on a vacuum when my home is all hardwood and tile except the 3 bedrooms. I need one with a heppa filter because of the pet dander and would like to spend no more than $250. Anyone have any suggestions?
