How can I say this sentence better? (pleasre answer, 10 points!)?

"Bennett uses certain references in the play in a symbolic way. The scene where Graham hides the pornographic magazines on the top of the cupboard is used as a metaphor to insinuate Graham's repression and possibly self denial of who he is. Similarly, the scene where Doris eats a cream cracker that picks up from the floor under the settee, is used as a metaphor to convey the theme of disregard and rejection of the society towards old people."
